At TAS+SD, we bring out the BEST in each young artist.  Instead of placing technique upon them, our students work to discover their talents and gifts from within.  What results are artists that are empowered and unique. It is our mission to help each artist develop their own voice.  Training is geared towards each student's specific needs and goals, utilizing a variety of techniques to help them feel confident, successful, and creative.

Private lessons are offered at TAS+SD in the following areas:

Courtney Corey, TAS+SD Director and Nominee of the 2020 Excellence in Theatre Education TONY AWARD coaches students ages 6 - adult. Sessions generally last one hour.  Younger students will often do 30-45 minute lessons, and students who are working on specific projects will often work for 90 minutes - 2 hours. Focusing on emotional intelligence, holistic artistry, body mechanics, and positive reinforcement, Courtney’s techniques empower and support the whole student.

Courtney’s students have been accepted into top universities such as: Carnegie Mellon University, NYU Tisch School of the Arts, University of Michigan, Pace University, Yale University, Fordham University, Emerson College, University of California Irvine, University of California San Diego, USC, Loyola Marymount University, Northwestern University, San Diego State University, Vanguard University, and more. She has students on Production Contracts, in leading regional theatres across the country, as well as in film, television and National commercials.  Whether you are prepping for Broadway auditions or looking to play leading roles at your school, private coaching at TAS+SD with Courtney Corey will help you to develop your craft and become successful in pursuing your goals.

"I have to start by saying thank you, I really cannot thank you enough for all you did to help prepare me for my auditions. I needed a guide and you truly showed me the way. Thanks to you, the auditions were fun and enjoyable and I was reminded, at audition after audition, how much I love theatre. From monologues to portfolios and everything in between, I will be forever grateful for all that you did. Thank you for helping me grow as an actor and discover new things about myself.

In early March I was accepted, and had committed to, Fordham Universtiy-Lincoln Center for Directing, but at the end of March, I had also been given a spot on the wait list for Carnegie Mellon. I was sure that I wouldn't get off the list so I started making plans for Fordham and was excited to move to NYC. However, on May 5th I got some exciting news and I am now honored and humbled to tell you that I was accepted to the Carnegie Mellon School of Drama for Directing and will attend this fall. The path was crazy and the wait was long, but I could not be more thrilled to start school. The community has been so welcoming and the program is amazing beyond belief. Seriously, thank you so much for all of your help. I really could not have done this without you."

MORE ABOUT PRIVATE LESSONS:

Most students are scheduled on a regular basis 2-4 times per month. They pay for their month of lessons at the beginning of each month, in order to secure their time slots.  Some students schedule their lessons a la carte.  All a la carte students will be seen time permitting.  Payments can either be made by credit card, check (payable to: Theatre Arts School of San Diego), VenMo, or cash.  All students must pay for the lessons for the month (whether it is 2 lessons, 4 lessons, or more) by the 1st of each month.

Students are responsible for attending their lessons on time and on the correct date. Please see the studio calendar and invoice for your lesson schedule.

  • If you notice an error in the schedule, please notify the instructor as soon as possible.

  • Private lessons must be cancelled by the student 24 hours or more in advance to receive the option for a rescheduled makeup lesson. Makeup lessons may be scheduled anytime within ONE YEAR, outside of the regularly scheduled lessons.

  • No shows or lessons cancelled by the student with less than 24 hours' notice will not receive any credit or reschedule option.

  • If the instructor needs to cancel for an emergency, you will receive the option for either a credit on your next statement or a future rescheduled makeup.

  • For regular students: all payments must be made at the beginning of the month to ensure your lesson schedule and to avoid a late fee. Payments made after the 10th of the month will incur a $25 late fee charge.

  • For non-regular students: all payments must be made in advance of the scheduled lessons in order to ensure your spot on the calendar. If lessons are not paid ahead of time, you may lose your spot on the calendar.
